Formby Hall is a much-loved and well-used community hub that is of huge historical importance to our area and I have worked continuously with Atherton Residents’ Association and local people to fight these plans.
When plans were again re-submitted to demolish our Hall, I was left with no choice but to make representations to the Secretary of State, requesting that he use his powers to ‘call-in’ this planning application. If he is able to, this would mean that the Minister would have the final say on whether or not Formby Hall can be saved.
Next year marks 100 years since the building was gifted to Atherton District Council explicitly for the benefit of the people of Atherton. It seems unthinkable that, in its centenary year as a civic hall at the heart of our community, Wigan Council may allow Formby Hall to be demolished.
