Chris Green MP has welcomed the government’s new proposals released this week, which aim to tackle the leasehold scandal.
The proposals include details of the introduction the new ban on leaseholds for future new build homes, which will now go through a six week consultation process, where leaseholders can submit their evidence and their views on the proposed changes.
The Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, James Brokenshire MP has also announced the creation of a New Homes Ombudsman which will act as a new watchdog, which will serve to champion homebuyers, protect their interests and hold developers to account.
Mr Green has been involved in campaigning for a reform of leaseholds after being contacted by constituents who raised their concerns about their own properties.
He said: “Since the government banned the new sales of leasehold properties in England last year, it has been committed to reforming the current leasehold system.
“After urging local residents last month to submit their evidence to the Leasehold Reform Inquiry, I’m pleased to see the government’s new proposals to tackle the leasehold scandal.
“I hope that the consultation will rectify the remaining problems with the leasehold system, ending the unfair treatment of those who have been affected and I hope my constituents will again submit their evidence to the new consultation.”
