Bolton’s Jobs & Skills Fair continues to get bigger, with over 3000 live job vacancies on offer at yesterday’s event.
The fair is held annually at Bolton College in partnership with Bolton Council, Bolton at Home, Job Centre Plus and the University of Bolton, members of the Team Bolton partnership.
Over 2,500 of jobseekers and people seeking employment advice were able to speak to over 70 employers, including Warburtons and Aldi. Also in attendance were representatives from the police and the army.
Employment opportunities included full-time, part-time, Apprenticeships and placements as well as advice on starting your own business.
Members of the public were joined by The Mayor and Mayoress of Bolton, Councillor Roger and Jaleh Hayes, Councillor Anna-Marie Watters and Conservative MP Chris Green.
Anne Marie Watters, representing Westhoughton South, said “I’m so glad to be here, it’s amazing to see the support shown by local employers, regardless of how big or small their business is”.
As well as an Employment Marketplace, jobseekers were able to take advantage of a Wellbeing Zone, where they could access information on careers, jobs, learning opportunities and finance.
Chris Green, member of parliament for Bolton West and Atherton said, “It is a really worthwhile event and is very good for Bolton as it meets the needs of the local community – access to quality information, advice and training to find employment”.
After the Jobs & Skills Fair, the College hosted the Futures4Me event, which offers impartial advice and guidance to year 11 pupils and their parents. Visitors were able to enjoy a range of have-a-go activities such as hairdressing and motor-mechanics, provided by the College.
Bill Webster, Principal of Bolton College said, “We are privileged to hold these events every year. It’s an ideal way for people to talk directly to companies who are looking to recruit and feedback from employers, jobseekers and learners is always positive”.
