A minister has confirmed how the government plans to help the local area recover from the Winter Hill wildfire this summer after Chris Green MP urged them for answers.
The Bolton West and Atherton MP asked the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, David Rutland MP what his department was doing to assist the Woodland Trusts’ recovery work following the fires that took place this summer.
The response to his question confirmed that the Woodland Trust is replacing the trees that were lost during the wildfire, and his department and the Forestry Commission are working with the Woodland Trust, panning recovery work for Winter Hill and also helping landowners in wider recovery work.
Mr Green said: “The Winter Hill fire this summer was terribly concerning and the amazing efforts of our firefighters to helped prevent the fire from spreading and causing more damage.
“I am pleased to see that the government is working with the Woodland Trust and Forestry Commission to ensure that this vital recovery work is completed.
“It’s also reassuring that the government is assisting the landowners, who were also affected by the fires, with their wider recovery work.”
