Bolton West MP Chris Green had a sneak preview of MBDA’s new Bolton base ahead of its move from Lostock to Logistics North later this year.
Joined by Bolton South East MP Yasmin Qureshi on the visit, they had a tour of the defence giant’s new site and met with young people going through MBDA’s award-winning apprenticeship programme.
The new Logistics North site, near Over Hulton, will see other major employers make significant investments ensuring many hundred new jobs are brought to the area.
Commenting on the visit, Chris said:
“By moving to a larger site at Logistics North, MBDA are showing their commitment to staying within the Bolton borough and their status as a major employer of high-tech jobs in our area.
“It was fascinating to see first-hand all the infrastructure that goes into making a world-class manufacturing facility.”
Bernard Waldron, MBDA’s Manufacturing Director UK, commented:
“We were pleased to host our two key local MPs at our new manufacturing facility which is nearing completion at Bolton’s Logistics North development. The company has invested £40M in this state-of-the-art facility, one which will enable MBDA to continue to provide the UK Ministry of Defence with world-leading products from Bolton for the next 25 years and beyond. We provided the MPs with an insight into the complexity of building such a unique facility, whilst also updating them on future business throughput and resourcing. I was delighted that they also had time to meet with some of our employees, including a number of our apprentices and our Trade Unions representatives, all of whom shared their views and those of the current Lostock community regarding the new facility and the future of MBDA in Bolton.”
