Bolton West MP Chris Green has welcomed a crucial vote in Parliament on a Bill that will take the UK out of the EU – despite Labour’s plans to sabotage it.
Chris joined Conservative MPs and a handful of Labour rebels in a vote on the EU (Withdrawal) Bill in a late sitting of Parliament.
The Bill, which will effectively repeal the European Communities Act 1972 which took the country into the then European Economic Community, has now passed its first crucial stage in Parliament.
The MP campaigned in favour of Brexit during the referendum last year.
Mr Green said: “This is a historic piece of legislation that will ensure that we have an orderly Brexit and I’m pleased to say it has passed this crucial stage, despite Labour’s plans to block it.
“Labour’s vote was irresponsible and a breach of trust with voters. I’m pleased, however, that they did not succeed and I will continue to work in Parliament to ensure that the will of the British people is acted upon.”
