An MP is urging local people to sign his petition in a last chance to ‘save Westhoughton’.
Bolton West MP Chris Green has been campaigning with residents to stop 1,700 houses being built on green fields near Chequerbent roundabout in Westhoughton. So far, over a thousand people have added their name to the petition.
Since the petition was launched, plans have been revealed for an extra 1,200 houses on neighbouring land as part of the Hulton Park Estate.
Chris commented: “There’s still a few more days left to add your name to our campaign to save Westhoughton from all these houses, and the thousands more cars this will bring to our already congested roads.
“I’ve been overwhelmed by the support we have received so far. The people of Westhoughton are absolutely clear that we cannot cope with another huge housing estate without any improvements to our infrastructure.”
To add your name to the petition, visit SaveWesthoughton.wordpress.com. To sign a paper copy, visit 15 Market Street, Westhoughton, BL5 3AH or call 01942 409132.
The MP plans to present the petition on Friday 21 October.
