A Bolton MP has welcomed the government’s new litter strategy following Bolton Council’s controversial slim bin roll out and an increase in reports of flytipping in his own constituency.
Under the new measures, those who litter could be hit with £150 fines. This will build on measures to better distribute public bins and the recommendation that offenders on community sentences – including for flytipping – help to clear up waste.
In Bolton, it costs £7,699,000 to clean up litter – the 18th highest in the country and the highest in the North West outside of Manchester and Liverpool.
Chris said: “Following Bolton Council’s roll out of the new slim bins, I have noticed an increase in the number of constituents getting in touch to complain about flytipping and litter.
“Hopefully these new measures should not only make it easier for people to get rid of litter properly, but by introducing tough enforcement measures, it will hit thoughtless flytippers in the pocket.”
