Before I was elected as MP for Bolton West & Atherton in 2015, I was an engineer in the Mass Spectrometry industry for nearly 20 years.
During my time in Parliament, I was elected on to the Science and Technology Select Committee, where I promoted the importance of our innovative industries so that we can secure high tech jobs in the North West. That's why I was really pleased to see in the Conservative Manifesto a plan to see 2.4% of GDP invested in research and development with a longer term goal of 3% - ensuring that the UK remains the best place for science and innovation.
