There are many different activities that MPs can get involved with from voting on particular issues to delivering a speech. One of the nicer aspects is to support various good causes which is why I was delighted to support the Brass Bands All-Party Parliamentary Group in making the case for a fair hearing on the BBC.
The BBC puts on a fantastic range of music and there are often calls from less well represented forms for more airtime and at better times so the APPG and representatives of Brass Bands from across the UK took this opportunity to press Bob Shennan, the controller for BBC Radio 2, to improve the coverage of Brass Bands: BBC Radio 2 already has Listen to the Band at 11:30pm for half an hour on Thursdays and the annual Young Brass competition. We are hoping that Listen to the Band could become a one hour programme and perhaps be brought forward to an earlier slot.
