It is great news that progress is being made to make Daisy Hill Railway Station accessible, however I know many of my constituents are concerned about the timescale required to complete the work after the money has been allocated.
Work will commence in March 2024 and is due to be completed by the end of the year.
Transport for Greater Manchester have provided a list of all the works required which you can see below:
• Providing an upgraded electricity supply to the station building
• Excavate the lift shaft base onto the platform
• Installing a lift motor room under the stair access
• Procure and deliver a lift shaft and lift which will need to be lifted from the adjacent carpark over the track onto the platform in sections
• Undertake the works in the existing building- this involves demolishing part of the ticket office, relocating their toilets to facilitate the lift entrance into the building and connecting the lift to the building, and rebuilding the ticket office
• Installing the power, communication and fire system for the lift and ticket office
• Installing an asset standard, accessible toilet within the existing building as part of the reconfiguration of the ticket office and staff area
• Carrying out the commissioning/testing and handover of the new lift to meet Network Rail requirements
• Undertaking modifications to the car park to facilitate improvements for people with reduced mobility once the lift has been installed.
