History will remember David Cameron as a great Prime Minister. After the Great Recession, he pulled our country back from the brink, overseeing our economic recovery and record levels of employment. We are now a far more outward looking optimistic country than when David Cameron first became Prime Minister.
David is no stranger to Bolton and one of my favourite memories from last year’s general election campaign was his visit to Sacred Heart R.C. Primary School in Westhoughton. What most people remember from that visit is the image of the schoolgirl with her head in her hands, overwhelmed by the number of cameras and people in the room. But what I remember best from that visit is David clearing the room of every journalist, camera and aide, and rather than getting back on the campaign trail straight away he chose to finish reading a story to the children there. That for me sums up David Cameron: a man of genuine warmth and a Prime Minister who always put people first.
