Westhoughton MP Chris Green has joined one of the town’s bowling clubs in their quest to get their green fit for purpose.
Westhoughton Bowling Club got in touch with their MP after losing patience with the lack of maintenance of their 100-year-old green despite paying fees to the council. The green is regularly waterlogged and overgrown with weeds.
Chris has now contacted the council, asking that they look into the problem.
Chris said: “On my visit to the bowling club I discovered that the green was waterlogged and covered in toad rush, moss and thatch. I attempted to play myself and it is clear that it is not fit for purpose.
“The greens have been here for over 100 years and it would be a shame to see them fall into disrepair. I’ve asked the council to make sure that appropriate maintenance is carried out so that Westhoughton Bowling Club can continue to be at the centre of the community as it has for generations.”
