Prime Minster Theresa May has said that council leaders should listen to local people over controversial plans for thousands of houses to be built across Greater Manchester following a question from a Bolton MP.
It follows Monday’s closure of the public consultation on the Greater Manchester Spatial Framework, which proposes thousands of houses to be built across Bolton West and Atherton.
Speaking in today’s Prime Minister’s Questions (Wednesday, January 18), Bolton West MP Chris Green said:
“I welcome my Rt. Hon. Friend’s speech setting out a plan for global Britain. It clearly shows this side of the House is listening to the British people.
“Would my Rt Hon Friend commend this approach to the council leaders now considering the Greater Manchester Spatial Framework consultation responses, as to the need to listen to the people, give us better infrastructure and protect our green spaces?”
The Prime Minister responded:
“I thank my Hon. Friend for his comments but also for raising this issue.
“I understand that the consultation on this spatial framework closed earlier this week and I understand that there has been a huge amount of interest among local people on this and I would simply echo his comment that it is absolutely right to say that local leaders should take all representations that have been made into account.”
