A Bolton MP has welcomed new statistics showing falling youth unemployment in his constituency.
Chris Green MP has revealed that there are now just 285 18-24 year olds claiming out of work benefits in his Bolton West constituency. This is a fall of more than 50 percent since May 2010, when the figure was 600.
Nationally, the employment rate remains at a joint-record high of 74.6 percent – a rate that hasn’t been seen since the 1970s.
The MP said: “These figures show that more people than ever are in work and bringing home a wage.
“The fact that youth unemployment is now so low shows that our plans to ensure that every young person is either earning or learning is starting to see results.
“As always, there is still more to do as we work towards achieving full employment and help even more people benefit from the opportunities in our economy.”
