Bolton West MP Chris Green has added his name to a letter signed by a group of cross-party MPs urging the Prime Minister to intervene to protect jobs at BAE Systems.
The letter, signed by 142 MPs, comes after the defence manufacturer announced last week that it is planning to cut almost 2,000 jobs in its military, maritime and intelligence services.
Now, Chris wants to see the order for replacements of the Hawk plane, flown by the Red Arrows, to be brought forward to save jobs at BAE Systems and keep production in the UK.
Chris said: “I’m pleased that the government has made clear it is committed to working with BAE to save jobs.
“One of the ways that this could be done is by bringing forward the contract to replace the Red Arrow’s fleet – not only will this protect jobs, it will also ensure that Hawk planes are continued to be manufactured in the UK.”
The new Hawk is manufactured at BAE’s sites at Warton and Samlesbury, Lancashire and Brough, East Yorkshire.
