Bolton West MP Chris Green is backing a re-think of a ban on standing at matches at English football’s top two divisions – and wants to hear local fans’ views ahead of a debate in Parliament.
The Westminster Hall debate is taking place after 112,000 people signed a petition calling for an end to a ban on standing in Premier League and Championship football matches.
A survey by the Football League indicated 94 percent of 33,000 fans want safe standing to be introduced.
Mr Green said:
“I know a number of football fans here in Bolton West are keen for safe standing areas to return to matches and I share their view that the current ban is old-fashioned and out of touch with what people want.
“I am mindful to support the plans for safe seating but I would be interested to hear the views of my constituents ahead of next week’s debate. “
