Chris Green MP is challenging Chorley Council on their decision to ban away fans from Chorley Town Centre.
The decision to ban away supporters from the town centre who are attending day-time matches was made during a town council meeting last month, after reports from local businesses that groups of fans were congregating outside public houses in the town.
There has however, been and increasing backlash against the Council’s decision. This comes after a letter send to Sheffield United by the Chorley Council regarding the ban was leaked onto the social media platform Twitter.
Mr Green said: “The decision from Chorley Town Council to ban away fans from the town may implicate its local economy.
“Football clubs are already struggling to fill seats at games, and this ban will only deter away supporters for visiting Chorley and returning to town in the future.
“I also find it concerning that a majority of the well-behaved football away fans are being tarred with the same brush as the minority that causes trouble.
“I have written to Chorley Town Council regarding my concerns and I hope that the town’s council will reconsider its decision.”
