Chris Green MP has lent his support to the national campaign, aimed at increasing education funding for 16 to 18 year olds.
The ‘Raise the Rate’ campaign aims to increase the funding rate for sixth form students, backed by school and college leaders, governors, students, teachers and support staff.
At a meeting in Westminster, the Bolton West and Atherton MP met with representatives from the Sixth Form Colleges Association and pledged his support for the national campaign.
During this week’s budget, it was announced that schools would receive a one of £400million boost in-year, averaging at £10,000 per primary school and £50,000 per secondary school.
Mr Green said: “The budget was a good start for education, allocating more funding to our schools so that our children can get the best possible start in life.
“The government’s plans to reduce the apprenticeship levy will mean that more businesses will be able to afford to offer good quality apprenticeships, however more needs to be done to support our sixth forms.
“I am pleased to support the ‘Raise the Rate’ campaign, to ensure that sixth form students can access the qualifications and classes that they need to equip them for further study or the world of work.”
