Chris Green MP has voiced his support for a motion submitted for Bolton Council to create its own five-year housebuilding plan.
The five year plan put forward to Bolton Council by Cllr Kirk-Robinson as a proposed remedy to the towns housebuilding crisis whilst the town waits for the Greater Manchester Spatial Framework to be delivered.
Currently, Bolton Council have no local plan for housebuilding and infrastructure leaving local land vulnerable to undirected housing development, including green-field sites.
If accepted, the five-year plan would lay out a vision for local housebuilding and infrastructure, protecting the town from undirected development and the destruction of its green spaces.
Mr Green urged the council to consider the five year plan after lacking clarity about when the Greater Manchester Spatial Framework will be delivered.
GMSF has been struck with numerous delays due to disputes between council leaders across Greater Manchester and the Mayor Andy Burnham.
Mr Green said: “We have been left in limbo long enough for the 10 Labour-led borough councils and the Mayor of Greater Manchester to deliver the Greater Manchester Spatial Framework.
“This was their opportunity to set out a vision for Greater Manchester, with plans for local house building and developing the vital infrastructure needed to go alongside it.
“Bolton Council now needs to take action to prevent more undirected housebuilding and lacking development of our local infrastructure.
“This is why I welcome Cllr Kirk-Robinson’s motion to Bolton Council to develop its own five-year plan for housing supply and I urge Bolton Council to vote in favour of this motion.”
