Local MP Chris Green has announced his support for two projects that will improve disabled access at local railway stations.
Mr Green has written to the Department for Transport in support of a new ‘Access for All’ bid, which if successful, will see new handrails installed on the ramps at Westhoughton station and a new seated resting area at Lostock station.
In support of the Bolton Station Community Development Partnership’s plans to develop unused space at Bolton Station into a community hub for all, the MP has also urged the government to provide funding for a new lift and other accessibility improvements. This will ensure that the new first-floor community space can be accessed by everyone.
Speaking on this important issue, Mr Green said: “It is so important that our railway stations are accessible to everyone, which is why I’m pleased to be supporting both of these projects, that will improve railway access for those in wheelchairs, people with prams or those with heavy luggage.”
“We have already seen Daisy Hill railway station’s successful bid for funding to improve its step-free access from the government’s ‘Access for All’ scheme and I look forward to hearing if many more of our local stations will also benefit from this funding soon.”
