Chris Green MP raised a series of concerns in Westminster during an Urgent Question on Covid-19.
Yesterday evening, it was discovered that the Government had put in place ‘guidance’ preventing all but essential travel in and out of Bolton and preventing people from gathering indoors. There was no announcement about the introduction of this new guidance and local health officials and the leadership of Bolton Council were not consulted on the decision to implement these measures.
Mr Green stated: “I was delighted when I thought Bolton was coming out of lockdown with the rest of the country. I am aghast that this ‘guidance’ was only discovered late last night. Ministers need to explain what is going on.
“As it is guidance, you do not have to follow it.”
During the debate, Mr Green asked a series of questions to the Minister for Covid-19 Vaccine Deployment, Nadhim Zahawi to establish when these local lockdown measures were agreed with Bolton Council and the Prime Minister.
Mr Green stated: “Will he confirm when these local lockdown measures were agreed with the leadership at Bolton Council?
“Would he confirm when the Prime Minister formally agreed to these restrictions being imposed?”
