I have been working with local residents in Smithills to deal with their concerns over dangerous driving on Smithills Dean Road.
I am disappointed that the Labour leadership on Bolton Council have released a report which advises against installing a speed camera as there has not been sufficient serious injuries or deaths in the last three years.
Residents are concerned over the large number of incidents that have not been reported to Bolton Council and especially have concerns with the risk associated with the two schools. Instead, Bolton’s Labour group have decided to disregard the risk posed to school children and advise against installing a speed camera, ignoring the concerns of local residents.
The final decision is yet to be made and I have written to the Labour cabinet member for highways, Cllr Hamid Khurram, to share your views. Cllr Khurram still has the opportunity to do the right thing and back local residents in Smithills.
Please do let me know your thoughts on whether you think Bolton Council has taken enough action.
