Due to a decision by Bolton Council and the Clinical Commissioning Group, the intermediate and respite care beds at Winifred Community Care Centre have been closed. This was done to change the focus to much more care in the home so that people can be with their friends and family rather than to save money – beds will still be available within the borough just not in Westhoughton.
Chris Green said: “On a recent visit to Winifred Kettle, it was sad to see that three quarters of the building had been closed and is now unused. People fear that if the building is not fully used then it is at risk of being closed down entirely.
“I have received assurances from Bolton Council that a range of services will be introduced to Winifred Kettle but I want to see them as soon as possible to guarantee its future.
In the longer term, we have to see the changes work or we will have to reverse the council decision because the care of those in need and support of the families is the priority.”
